BASIC GEOMETRY CONCEPTS AND DEFINITIONS

GEOMETRY:It´s an area of Knowledge which studies any elements and operations on/in the plane such as points.

GREEK:Geo is earch metry is mesaurent.

POINT:In geometry a point can be defined as place or localitation where two lines intersect.A point hasn´t dimension; no heigh and no widht.

LINE:A one-dimensional object formed of infinite points. It hasn´t end and continues on forever in a plane.

RAY:A line which beins at a particular point (called the end point) and extends end essly in one direction.

MINDPOINT:It´s the point that is halfway between the end points of the line segment.

LINE SEGMENT:It´s a line with two end points.

LENGTH:Measurement of something from end to end

GEOMETRY DRAWING AND SUPPLIES CONCEPTS AND DEFINITIONS

FEEHAND:Draw by hand without guidig instruments, measurements.

LINE/TECHNICAL DRAWING:It´s a drawing made with the help of supplies. It´s usually the kind of drawing used for architecture or enginiering plans.

COMPASS:It´s a tool for drawing circles and arcs also for measuring distances between points, consisting of two arms linked by a hinge.

SET SQUARES (UK) TRIANGLES (USA):They are two special rulers with a triangular shapes. One is called the 45º triangle (45ºsquare,UK)and the other the 30/60ºtriangle.Both have the 90ºangle.So they are used to draw certain angles and also to draw parallel lines.

ERASER/RUBBER:It´s the tool for clean something writed with the pencil.

RULER:It´s the tool for middle one side to other.

IMPORTANT DEFINITIONS ABOUT CIRCLES

CIRCLE:Set of points at the same distance (equidistant) to a point called center (the line)

CIRCUNFERENCE:It´s the full lengh of a circle. The complete distance around a circle.

CENTER:It´s the point equidistant to any of the points on a circle.
RADIUS:It´s the length of a line segment from the center and conects to perimeter.[plural(radiuses)].

DIAMETER:A line segment that passes thrugh the center and conects two points of a circle.

HORD:Aline segment which conects two points of the circle.

ARC:Line segment of a circle.

IMPORTANT DEFINITION ABOUT ANGLES AND LINES

PARALLELS:They are lines which never intersect them selves so all their points are equidistant.

PERPENDICULAR:They are lines which meet forming four right angles.

OBLIQUE:They are lines which aren´t parallels neither perpendicular.

ANGLE:It´s a figure formed by two rays (sides of angle) sharing a common endpoint (vertex).

TYPES OF ANGLES:

COMPLEMENTARY ANGLES:There are couples of angles which sum is 90º.

SUPLEMENTARY ANGLES:They´re couples of angles which sum is 180º.

ADYACENT ANGLES:They´re angles that share one side and the vertex.

TYPES:

RIGHT,OBTUSE,ACUTE,FLAT,COMPLET,ZERO.

THE ANGLE BISECTOR:It´s an angle that is divide into two parts equals.

THE POLYGONS

NUMBER OF SIDES (NAMES)

-TRIANGLE(3)
-QUADRILATERAL(4)
-PENTAGON(5)
-HEXAGON(6)
-HEPTAGON(7)
-OCTOGON(8)
-DECAGON(10)
-DODECAGON(12)

STAR POLYGON: It´s a particular polygon case with a star shape, created out of linking together non consecutive vertices of a regular polygon.

INSCRIBE POLYGONS: They are polygons place inside circles so all vertices of the polygon are placed on the circle.

CIRCUNSCRIBED: They are polygons sorrounding a circle, being it´s sides tangent to the circle inside.

EQUIANGULAR: All their corners, angles or vertices are equal.

EQUILATERAL: All edges or sides are of the same length.

REGULAR: All their vertices, angles and sides are equal.

IRREGULAR: Show different angles and length for their sides.
